What Really Drives PCB Assembly Quotes: A Buyer and Engineer Checklist

There is no universal PCBA unit price—quotes stack multiple variables. Understanding them helps R&D make manufacturable trade-offs early and helps procurement compare bids fairly.

PCB and panel design

  • Layer count, thickness, trace/space, surface finish (HASL, ENIG, OSP, etc.)
  • Panelization, V-cut or routing, controlled impedance requirements

BOM and materials

Component count, share of BGAs/connectors, and scarce ICs drive material cost and placement time. Turnkey quotes should define the AVL and alternate-part policy.

Process difficulty

01005, double-sided SMT, selective wave, hand-solder joints, conformal coat, and X-Ray sampling rates all map to labor and equipment loading.

Test and compliance
